Products & Recommendations for Keeping Your Home Clean
At Lambert Home, we laugh that I was just BORN to be an interior designer—there’s no doubt about it! I was designing Barbie’s dream home in early childhood and, sometimes, I just get an itch to rearrange my own home. Recently, I was letting the concept of switching my dining room and living room percolate and now I have finally taken the plunge! I’m loving it—I’m obsessed—I could go on and on. BUT that’s not why we’re here. Once I got the itch to rearrange, I found the Magna-Tiles that had lived under the sofa for 6 months, the sock that was missing it’s pair, and crumbs in the couch cushions…which we aren’t even supposed to eat on…a real mystery for the ages! If you ever find yourself looking under your sofa and wondering how on Earth it all got so dirty, I’ve gathered together a few of my favorite products and recommendations for cleaning your home and a tip from my current living room layout for you to consider!
Amazon Products to Shop
1. Damp Dusting Sponge
I grew up dusting with pledge and an old rag, but TikTok converted me to these dusters. These damp dusting sponges from Amazon pick-up and HOLD the dust so easily and are great for my baseboards, door trims, and fan blades!
2. My Favorite Every Day Vacuum
I have had a wild ride with vacuums and have tried them all with little success, I felt! Until I found this one! It is lightweight, easy to roll, easy to change the bag, has the exchangeable attachments for my different floor types, all for a GREAT price!
3. My Favorite Portable Stain Spot-Treat Vacuum
Now, you know I have four kids…so it goes without saying that I’m using this baby all the time. I use it on my stair carpet often but also have treated the upholstery, headboards, even my car with this tool.
4. Carpet Powder
This product helps my nose think my house is possibly cleaner than it is! I love that it is baking-soda based so I don’t have to worry about harmful chemicals or off-gassing in the house.
5. Mini Scrub Brush
I use this around my bath faucets and drains, on tough stains, and even on some old brass cabinet hardware I bought off of eBay and had to polish up!
6. Steam Shot
I’m nearly influenced on this! I think this would be amazing on my kitchen and bathroom grout, my floor tiles in heavy traffic areas, my countertops, and I’d even try it on my door trim to my garage door—you know, the gunky build-up that gets on your heavily-used doors and cabinets over time? I think this would knock that right out!
Recommendations for a Fresh Home
1. Open Your Windows!!
Have you heard of Sick Building Syndrome? It is the discomfort or negative health effect of stale air or poor indoor air quality. To avoid this, open up those windows! Even thirty minutes with a cross-breeze will do wonders for the state of the air in your home by removing pollutants and chemical contaminants. Now, make sure you don’t decide to do this when the pollen is high—you’ll have the opposite problem!
2. Consider Butcher Block Countertops
Instead of having stone countertops in my living and dining rooms, I have butcher block tops. I love the functionality of not worrying about the finish or chipping the paint of a wood top. The one stipulation is that I do have to oil them (bonus product!) so that they continue to look and feel their best. I chose the butcher block tops so that not every room in my downstairs living spaces had the same countertop! Not only did it break up the kitchen-use feeling of each room, but it made it so that I could easily switch the living room for the dining room—nothing in one appeared TOO “dining”, nothing in the other was TOO “living”—easy!
3. Consider How Your Spaces Make You Feel
I recently attended a session about mental health and interior design and the speaker mentioned the human need for both expansive spaces to feel free and cozy spaces to feel protected. I realized that my living room was NOT meeting my cozy, protected need and the reason I had been considering rearranging for months was my sense of unrest and unease in the space. I couldn’t FULLY relax and enjoy a game with my kids or a show after bedtime because of this! The absolute minute I switched the rooms, and sat on the sectional in its new corner for the first time, I sighed with relief and even laughed a little! The rest! The relaxation! Again, I’m obsessed!
Whether you’re prone to spontaneous rearranging, or you just need some tools to help keep your home clean, we hope these lists help! Ultimately, nothing is more luxurious and relaxing than a home that feels fresh and clean. Your family, your pets, and maybe even you will continue to bring the crumbs of a delicious meal, a lonely sock, and other knickknacks throughout your spaces. But now, you’ll be able to clean them up easier than ever!
