A Family Craft to Start the Holiday Season!

One of my core values as a mom is exploring wonder. We just got back from a family camping trip where I intentionally took time to stop and explore the mushrooms, create leaf watercolor art, and see pictures in the clouds! That feeling of surprise mixed with enjoyment inspired by something beautiful or unexpected is something I want to notice in my own life and something I want my children to be able to notice when they feel it! A new piece of music, a beautiful leaf, or a delicious new recipe should spark wonder in our hearts and minds if we’re open to seeing it.

As we kick off the holiday season it’s a time we, as a culture, celebrate magic, wonder, and imagination! It’s finally my time to shine! We’ve intentionally planned a whole season of amazing surprises for you but we’re starting with a baby’s breath wreath that is such a fun departure from the fall leaves or evergreen we’re used to in this season that it just makes me smile.

This blog is all about bringing you in on the fun! A baby’s breath wreath is simple enough that even the least creative can join in, while still having a beautiful impact in your home! So, to help you and your family achieve that feeling of wonder and quality time this holiday season, I want you to grab some loved ones, run to the store, and make some wreaths with us!

shopping list

1. Grapevine Wreath Form 18”

2. Floral wire (22 gauge)

3. Garden shears

4. LOTS of baby’s breath! We recommend 10-12 bundles for an 18” wreath. (-:

LET’S GET STARTED!

Step 1:

Tie floral wire to the grapevine wreath form. I like to get started by wrapping the wire around one time before adding any baby’s breath.

Step 2:

Next - you’re going to be really surprised here - hold a bundle of baby’s breath and wrap the wire over to hold in place. We’ll stagger our baby’s breath stems so that the next bundle will cover the wire wrap so there’s no need to worry about floral wire visibility.

Step 3:

Continue down the wreath covering each wrap with a new bundle of baby’s breath. When you’ve made the complete circle and your wreath form is completely covered from the front tie off the floral wire! Okay, to be completely transparent here, I was running out of baby’s breath at the end (I was working with 10 bundles)! This obviously worked out great in the end, because it gave me room for a lovely pink bow! But, if you would rather a more full wreath, you may want to go up to 12 baby’s breath bundles.

Let’s decide to be a little more like Anne Shirley in Anne of Green Gables this season and celebrate our scope for the imagination. Let’s play, pretend, create, celebrate, and laugh!

“Dear old world', she murmured, 'you are very lovely, and I am glad to be alive in you.”
― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
