Construction Trends We’re Loving for 2024

One month into 2024, and we’re already noticing some construction trends that we are loving! At Lambert Home, we are dedicated to timeless, beautiful designs, and these trends fit right in with the construction projects of our dreams.

Stain-Grade Cabinets

At Lambert Home, we’ve always loved stain-grade cabinets! We think the character, warmth, and richness you get from stain-grade cabinets truly can’t be replicated, but in 2024 we’re specifically loving what Walnut brings to the table. Walnut has a smoother grain than a wood like red oak, or even white oak, and stains to a really warm rich tone.

Cabinetry Detailing

When we talk about cabinetry details I’m really talking about two things: Functional Details and Aesthetic Details. When it comes to functional details, we’re loving things like drawer pegs, pull outs, vented storage for veggies, paper towel pull-outs, etc. These functional details turn a regular kitchen into YOUR kitchen! These details support YOUR lifestyle, and how you use your kitchen! They literally change your day-to-day life in your kitchen!

When it comes to Aesthetic cabinetry details, we know that this can get a little nitty gritty and maybe go farther than you’ve ever really thought about with cabinets. But let me tell you this one pro-tip that will take you a long way: every shadow line for your cabinetry adds visual interest and the perception of luxury. In the example photo below, we actually have 3 shadow lines. Your primary line is, of course, where the cabinets meet the face frames. This is the shape of the drawer or door itself. Our second and third shadow lines appear within the drawer frame itself. These are located at what we call the “shaker edge” and inside the “bead trim.”

Now that you know this trick, as you’re enjoying Pinterest, start counting your shadow-lines to see just how much cabinetry detail you prefer!

Trim Carpentry

People are finally beginning to understand the impact that simple trim carpentry can add to a space! For years, we witnessed the unfortunate trend of REMOVING trim carpentry from a home, but people are beginning to understand that when the trim carpentry goes, the character, the luxury, the authenticity of a home goes as well. From chair rail and window frames in a hallway, to thoughtful moldings in the entry and dining, trim carpentry goes the longest way!!

Now, here’s where I must offer a strong warning!!! When we’re encouraging the use of trim carpentry, I must warn against an improper application! Take the picture below for example. Simply adding a few molding pieces to textured sheetrock is really NOT going to give us the look we’re going for.

Natural Countertops

Whether quartzite, marble, soapstone, etc., we love how natural stone countertops elevate any design. They add an ease and a natural beauty that really can’t be achieved with a manufactured product!

These stones are often avoided due to price. However, there are some amazing, affordable marbles, like fantasy brown, that give you an incredible, natural look for an amazing price! And, of course, there are the spendy natural countertops which are, frankly, worth the money! Don’t worry, we can help you find the perfect countertops for your home and your budget!

Lighting

Lighting…Lighting…Lighting — Multi-level lighting is truly non-negotiable. In order to make your space feel luxurious, we can add lighting under the counter, under the cabinets, inside the cabinets, above the cabinets, wall-sconces, ceiling fixtures, floor lamps, table lamps, etc. One of the primary ways to make your space look intentional, DESIGNED, expensive, and also fully homey and welcoming, is multi-level lighting.

Lacquer

One of the most exciting details we’re including in projects in 2024 is the addition of lacquer!! Whether it’s a polished lacquered ceiling, or cabinetry, walls, or trim carpentry, we’re obsessed with the elegance, sheen, and unexpectedness of lacquer!

While these construction elements are trending right now, it’s so important to remember that these are going to create timeless designs in your space. You don’t have to worry about your space going out of style with these trends, you’re going to love it for a long time!
